Morris Island Community First Response
We are a rural emergency first response team of volunteers serving the Morris Island and Vydon Acres community.
Why we started
It takes at least 15 minutes for an ambulance to reach our community
For cardiac arrests this is too long to wait. Everyone in the community contributed to purchasing an AED (defibrillator) and some members of the community volunteered to train up and become emergency first aid responders.
How the program works

1
Neighbors join the program
We need the name, address and phone number of everyone in your household that may need to reach us for an emergency. After joining we will share the emergency phone number you can keep stored in your phone.
2
Volunteer-run emergency phone
Each phone number submitted by a neighbor is stored in the first response program phone with 'emergency bypass' settings. This means that it will ring loudly and alert the volunteer currently 'on call' no matter the time of day.
3
Call us in an emergency
In a medical emergency, AFTER contacting the emergency services text or call the first response phone number. We will mobilize ASAP, bringing the AED to your location. Once the emergency services arrive we will hand off and support however they need.
What we can help with
Any injury or medical emergency you would call an ambulance for, especially if a quick response would reduce the chance of permanent injury or death.

We are all trained in first aid and use of the community AED. Give us a wave if you see any of us out and about in the community!
